COVID-19 vaccine 2nd doses were initially booked 16 weeks (4 months) from the date of the first dose. As Ontario is getting an increased and stable supply of vaccines, they are reducing that interval time for individuals who received their first dose of an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as short as 4 weeks (28 days). Individuals who have received a first dose with AstraZeneca vaccine at least 8 weeks before the second dose appointment date.
Patients who are currently eligible to get a second dose sooner include:
Anyone who was born in 2009 or earlier who received their first dose of Pfizer, is eligible for their second dose, 4 weeks (28 days) after the date of their first dose.
Anyone who is 18 and up who received their first dose of an mRNA (Pfizer or Moderna), is eligible for their second dose, 4 weeks (28 days) after the date of their first dose.
Anyone who received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, is eligible for a second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine or you may choose to have a second dose of one of the mRNA vaccines 8 weeks after the date of their first dose.
To move up your appointment, please visit the Provincial COVID-19 Vaccine Booking System or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Booking Line at 1-833-943-3900.
If you had the Pfizer vaccine and are currently eligible for a 2nd dose, you may contact our office to receive your 2nd dose.
As a reminder, our office receives vaccine supplies as per the availability from the Thunder Bay District Health Unit. From Jun 15th onwards we only expect to receive Pfizer vaccines, so our office can give vaccines for patients ages 12 (or turning 12 in 2021) and up.
