COVID-19 Vaccines for ages 80+

Updated: Apr 6, 2021

COVID-19 immunizations are currently not available here at our office. While we understand patients' preference would be to have it done here at our office, we strongly recommend getting the vaccine as soon as it is available for you. We do not know if/when we will have COVID-19 vaccines here. Please be assured that we will let you know if/when we have any of the vaccines and if you are eligible to receive it from us.

As of March 15, the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines are available for patients who are ages 80 and older. Immunizations are only being done at the Thunder Bay District Health Unit COVID-19 Immunization Clinic, located at 425 Northern Avenue in the CLE Coliseum Building. Eligible patients must book an appointment, they will not accept walk-ins. To book an appointment, please visit the TBDHU website at TBDHU.com/covidclinics or phone 1-833-943-3900.

The age eligibility may change on a weekly or monthly basis, as they will open up eligibility via 5-year increments (the next eligibility will be ages 75 and older, then 70 and older, etc). Please watch for updates on the TBDHU website.

As for the AstraZeneca vaccine, as of March 15 it is not yet available in Thunder Bay. It is currently only available in select pharmacies in Southern Ontario. Currently, it is only offered to those ages 60-64, or until new research can approve it for older citizens.

If you have any other questions, we first recommend checking our COVID-19 UPDATE page. We have updated it to include a Q&A section on the COVID-19 vaccines.
